Sewage cleanup in Miami starts by sealing the room off.
A sewage backup isn't a mopping job. The water is contaminated, so it changes what can be saved. We seal the room off, take out what soaked it up, clean what's left, then dry it and log a reading for every material.
Sewage water changes every decision
Clean water from a supply line is one thing. Water that has passed through a toilet trap, a sewer line, or standing groundwater is another: it carries bacteria, so it's handled as a biohazard rather than as a wet floor. The drying standard calls the first Category 1 and the second Category 3.
Anything that soaked it up comes out
Carpet, pad, insulation, particleboard, and drywall below the water line are removed rather than dried. They can't be cleaned to a safe standard once contaminated.
We seal the room off first
We seal the room off and keep the air inside it moving out of the building, so nothing airborne travels into the rest of the house while the wet material is bagged and carried out.
Cleaned, then dried
Every remaining surface is HEPA vacuumed and washed before drying equipment goes in, and we'll tell you what we used on it. Drying a contaminated cavity without cleaning it first just moves the problem into the air.
Respirators, suits, and boot covers
Respirators, suits, and boot covers on every technician, with one controlled way in and out of the sealed area. Contaminated work is done in gear, and you'll see it on site.
The air conditioning gets shut down
The air conditioning is shut down and its return vents sealed. A running system can carry what's in that room through the whole property.
Documented for the claim
Water category, the conditions we found, the materials removed, and the readings, all recorded as we go. Sewage claims get scrutinized, so the file matters more than usual.
How a sewage job runs
Six stages, and nothing gets skipped because the room looks fine.
Stop the source
We close the valve or fixture that failed and shut the air conditioning down, so nothing spreads further while we set up.
Seal the area off
Sealed barriers, the air inside kept moving out of the building, and a single controlled way in and out.
Pump it out and remove
The contaminated water comes out first, then anything that soaked it up is cut back to a clean line and double bagged out.
Clean the surfaces
Hard surfaces HEPA vacuumed and washed, and we tell you what product went on them.
Dry and verify
Equipment sized to the water we measured, with readings taken daily until every remaining material reaches the target we set for it.
Hand over the file
Photographs, readings, a list of what was removed, and what we cleaned the rest with, collected in one file for you.
Sewage questions
Is a sewage backup covered by insurance?
It depends on the policy. Many Florida homeowners policies exclude sewer and drain backup unless you carry a specific endorsement, which is usually inexpensive and worth having. If the backup came from a covered plumbing failure inside the home, the answer is often different. We document the conditions we found, and where the water came from as far as we can observe it, because that's what the determination turns on.
Can I clean it myself if it's a small area?
We would not. Sewage water carries bacteria and viruses that survive on surfaces, and the risk isn't proportional to the size of the puddle. If it's confined to a small hard-surfaced area and you have proper protective gear, it's defensible. Anything touching carpet, drywall or cabinetry needs containment.
How long before the room is usable?
It depends on how far it spread and how much had to come out. Removal and cleaning is the first part of the work, and drying runs after that until the readings on the remaining materials reach their target. We'll tell you each day what the readings show and what's still outstanding, rather than hand you a date on the first visit.
Do you handle the plumbing repair?
No. We stop the spread, clean, and dry. The line repair goes to a licensed plumber, and we'll coordinate scheduling so you aren't waiting on two companies to talk to each other.
This isn't a mop-and-bucket job.
Sewage water gets sealed off before anything else happens. Call and we'll tell you which rooms to stay out of until we get there.
